Meraki Lab

Experimental notebooks

Meraki Lab is where we explore materials, structures and new ideas in bookbinding.

Each project begins with the material itself, often starting with everyday, disposable objects. Rather than applying design to a surface, we work with the material directly, allowing its texture, structure and limitations to shape the outcome.

The Lab operates as an open space for testing and iteration, where materials are broken down, reworked and reconsidered through process.

Material

Current work includes the development of notebooks made from repurposed carrier bags, transforming everyday waste into a new material surface.

By reworking printed material into a structured cover, the process explores how materials can be adapted through making, shifting them from disposable objects into something more durable.

Outcome

Some projects become products. Others remain experiments.

Each piece is an investigation into how materials behave and how they influence the final object.

Materials used in the Lab are sourced from everyday objects, including carrier bags from a range of brands. These are used purely as found materials for experimentation and do not represent collaborations or affiliations.

We are continually developing new concepts. If you have an idea, a material, or a starting point you’d like to explore, challenge us to create something unique together.
